Mickey and Minnie Oreo Valentines

What's better than Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and OREOS??? Yum!!

I made these little Mickeys a few years back and decided to resurrect the idea, adding Minnie to the mix this time!

I needed around 35 valentines this year, so I took a guess on how many packages of Oreos to buy.  I wish the packages said how many were in each, but here's what I found:

1 package of double stuf Oreos= 30 cookies (but a few were broken)
1 can mini-Oreos= ~26 non-broken cookies

Make sure that you get double stuf Oreos, there's enough space between the wafers to exactly fit on mini-wafer.

Separate the mini-Oreos, and scrape out any remaining "stuf" from the middle.

Chocolate melting:  Super easy.  Here's how I do it:

Microwave 1:00 on 20% power (then stir)
Microwave 0:30 on 20% power (stir)
Keep warming the chocolate in 30 second increments until it is all melted

Dip the mini-Oreo in a bit of dark chocolate melts:

Insert mini-Oreo into the "stuf".  Wiggle the mini-Oreo back and forth very slowly to secure it into the "stuf".  The big Oreo might crack a bit, or separate from the big "stuf", but don't worry, the chocolate in the next step will hold it all together.

Melt the pink or red.  Note:  50 chocolate melts covered around 15 Oreos.  There were approximately 130 melts in the bag.

Dip Mickey or Minnie into the chocolate, making sure to get the front, back and sides covered.  Toward the last cookies, you might need to tilt the cup of chocolate and/or spoon the chocolate over the cookies.

Carefully place the cookies onto a sheet of waxed paper to dry.  They will set up pretty quickly, but you can also put them on a cookie sheet in the freezer to speed it up.

The Duncan Hines cookie icing is great.  It's a bit runny, but it self-levels, creating a super smooth, hard icing, so you can stack the cookies when they are fully dry.  I added a sugar pearl to Minnie's bow, just for a little bling!

I love treat toppers!  I used Photoshop and a Disney font on a rectangle of cardstock (was able to get 4 per page).  Then just folded them in half and stapled them to the tops of the treat bags.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Love, Mickey and Minnie
